Product: DOP San Marzano Tomatoes (Case of 12 - 28oz Cans)
Price: View !!!
Description: It is generally believed that the seeds for the San Marzano variety of tomato arrived in Campagna from Peru in 1770. San Marzano is the name of the tomato variety as well as the name of the place in which it is grown, which is a designated DOP area of the EU. It is not a large area, and therefore, the supply of true DOP San Marzano Tomatoes is somewhat limited and more expensive than the non-DOP versions. The seed can be and is grown in other areas of Italy as well as the U.S., but since the volcanic soil around Mount Vesuvius is considered a main contributor to the unique taste, its absence is duly noted. The San Marzano Tomato is a bit thinner and pointier than the more familiar Roma tomato with a thicker flesh and fewer seeds. It has a stronger "tomato" taste, sweeter and much less acidic. It is the variety of choice for the tomato-based sauces of the Naples region of Italy which is famous for its pasta dishes as well as the Vera (True) Pizza Napoletana. We are very pleased to be carrying the Conte brand of certified DOP San Marzano Tomatoes. Each can contains 800g or 28oz. When you order this item you will receive one case of 12 - 28oz cans of San Marzano Whole Peeled Tomatoes. This product is specially ordered from our supplier. As a result, please allow 5-7 days processing time before shipment to you.
